Popcorn Tofu
This bite-sized tofu appetiser is the holy grail for those vegans who hanker for a crunchy, meaty and flavourful snack!
All you need is a block of tofu, spice mix of your choice, milk and breadcrumbs. This guilt-free snack can be made healthier by simply baking it out instead of deep-frying them.
These nuggets are irresistible and highly addictive just like actual popcorn!
Here’s how to make this super quick and easy popcorn tofu :
INGREDIENTS:-
- 400g tofu, cut into cubes
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika or red chilli powder
- 1 tsp mixed herbs
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup corn flour
- 1/2 cup plant milk, unsweetened
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil
INSTRUCTIONS:-
- Combine cornflour and milk in a mixing bowl to form a smooth and lump-free batter. (The consistency should be like a pancake batter.)
- Add all the spices and herbs. Stir until well combined.
- Dip each tofu cube into the cornflour batter and then roll in breadcrumbs, pressing firmly to coat.
- To bake : Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a baking sheet and lay down the breaded tofu bits.
Bake for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
To deep-fry : Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Deep fry the tofu until golden-brown and crisp on all sides.
Serve hot with sriracha, barbecue sauce or any other desired dipping sauce.
